Continuing education can be valuable. Really, it can - especially when it offers a new idea or when it offers a solution to an existing problem and when the concepts can be put into practice today!
Where can you find these valuable sessions?
Try the CSI Academies - focused, advanced education for specifiers, product representatives, and construction administrators. The course content is developed for experienced individuals wanting to improve their knowledge and skills. Each Academy is matched to CSI's three advanced certification programs:
Don't Take My Word for It
To paraphrase David Hahn, Director of Construction for Columbus Property Management & Development, who joined CSI while attending CONSTRUCT and the 2012 national convention and told me:
Unlike most other conferences where education sessions are nothing more than commercials, CSI convention offered real value with useful information and ideas.
I agree, totally! David found that CSI and its members are willing to share experience and knowledge simply to improve the industry. The sharing enthusiasm is evident in every CSI event: CONSTRUCT, the Academies, and the Master Specifiers Retreat.
Learn from Teachers Who Practice
So, now, consider the programs and the instructors for the Specifiers Academy. Every instructor is a long-term CSI member. Additionally, every instructor is a member of Specifications Consultants in Independent Practice (SCIP). They depend on their specifying skills not just to create great construction documents, but to make a living. These specifiers are completing hundreds of design projects each year and are constantly exploring ways to write specs more efficiently and accurately. What better way to learn than to take advantage of all that experience? (Yes, I am one of the instructors but only one of many.)
If you want to have a great experience networking with experienced specifiers, product representatives, and construction administrators and learn something you can use as soon as you return home, then sign up for the CSI Academies, February 7 - 9, 2013 held in Charlotte, NC. Reserve your spot soon. Space is limited and the event has sold out before. I hope to see you there.
